BEFORE MEMORY
A business, older than the ledgers
The business is older than the oldest story anyone remembers. What we know for certain begins with my great-great-grandfather — one of the most respected jewellers in Bulandshahr, whose name carried weight in the Sarrafa Bazaar long before anyone alive today was born.
Even then, the craft wasn’t new to him. He had inherited it. From whom, the ledgers don’t say.
THE DIVISION
The name, and none of the jewels
Wealth in old Indian families rarely passes down in a straight line. A generation later the business was divided, and when my great-grandfather died, his share never reached his children.
Our side of the family was left with the name of a jeweller and nothing else.
THE LONG WAY BACK
Buses, sarees, and one stubborn ambition
My grandfather — born into a family of goldsmiths — ran buses instead. Then a saree shop. Neither was the destination. Both kept the family fed while he held on to one stubborn ambition: to get us back to the trade that had been taken from us.
He began again with nothing. A small rented shop. Inventory entirely on loan. It took him and my father six years to repay it, and years more to rebuild the trust of a city — one customer at a time. Farmers from the villages around Bulandshahr. Families, Hindu and Muslim alike, who came for a wedding set and came back for everything after.
2015
Our own shop, in the same market
We bought our own shop in the Sarrafa Bazaar — the same market where our name had once meant everything.
It stands there today as SR Jewellers, run by my father.

THE FIFTH GENERATION
Akshat Verma
I took a different road first — engineering at IIT Roorkee, then years spent designing digital products. For a while it looked like I had left the family trade behind.
I hadn’t. Jewellery is design, the oldest kind there is. Every piece in my father’s shop answers the same questions I spent a career answering on screens: proportion, material, and how something feels in the hand on the thousandth day rather than the first.
LUXMÉ takes what SR Jewellers has always stood for — honest metal, fair value, trust earned slowly — and makes it for a customer my grandfather’s shop was never built to reach.
